Ocean Tuna Eye
Don’t be panic! This is one of the most popular for backpackers to try when visiting Phu Yen. I assure that there is nowhere in Viet Nam you can find the fresh, nutritious, big and cheap tuna eye like here. Tuna eye is boiled for 1 hour in a small jar with some vegetables, spices and herbs. The fishy odor is totally replaced by a delicious fragrance that reminds you of the majestic sea while enjoying.
In the cold weather by the sea breeze in Phu Yen, i have no doubt that tasting this hot soup, drinking some fresh beer, talking to yellow backpackers can bring the memorable experience for you.

Chicken rice
Backpackers Viet Nam is no longer strange to this food. But vary from the north to the south, it’s different in taste and ingredient. In Phu Yen, the backyard chicken is deemed to be the first standard to cook chicken rice in the right way. The delicious rice must be soft, not too wet but not too dry and tough, smell the chicken odor and turmeric.
Sauce made by sugar, fishsauce, minced garlic and chilli is an indispensable thing to make dish more special and unforgettable for backpackers.

“Banh hoi ” is shaped like a square piece consists of vermicelli fibers, often arranged like a circle and covered with some layers of hot oil and chives. This food must be eaten with meat, heart pork, pork liver,.. Chilli sauce, quite sweet, will create the incredible taste of the dish.
“Banh hoi long heo” is a special food in central provinces of Viet Nam, and you can also eat in Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai, Binh Thuan…

Red oyster – Oyster porridge at O Loan lagoon
I swear that the biggest regret when visiting Phu Yen is not eating O Loan lagoon’s red oyster yet.
Red oyster here is famous for the high nutrition, fresh and the fascinating taste. In O Loan lagoon, backpackers is surprised by the oyster in the biggest size you have ever seen. You also take experience in harvesting the oysters. After harvesting, red oysters can be eaten live with mustard, grilled or make oyster porridge. “Mild, sweet, shock of freshness and awesome” should be mentioned to describe.
My suggesttion: O Loan lagoon. You can easily see some small restaurants here to try the red oyster.

Banh beo chen – cup hot waterfern cake
“Banh bao chen” is one of the features in the central Viet Nam. Firstly, people scoop a spoon of rice flour into the small cup and steam in 6-8 mins. After that, when you smell the auroma of rice spreaded in the air, every cup of cake will be added some pork floss, fried breadcrumbs, roasted peanut and oiled scallion to become more eye-catching and sapid.

Banh canh he
“Banh canh he” is very familiar with Phu Yen residents and domestic visitors, so i think backpackers should try this food when travelling to Phu Yen. The special thing for this rice noodle soup is full of scallion and fish cake on the surface of bowl. Phu Yen is famous for fishery, so the fish cake taste here won’t disappoint you.
